Hello, My Name Is…
by Abby Bowman
I know what you’re probably thinking: “Who is this chick? What does she know about window film?”
My honest answer is “not much.”
But hear me out. I’m not completely ignorant. I’ve attended the International Window Film Conference and Tint-Off™ (WFCT) twice as the editor of Window Film’s sister publication, AGRR magazine. Sure, my main focus was on the Auto Glass Week™ side of the show, but it was hard not to get lured in by the bright colors and flashy displays at WFCT, too. I’ve also attended the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show and a dealer conference.
Exploring these shows gave me a taste of the industry. Now I’m hungry to learn much, much more.
I already mentioned that I’m the editor of AGRR magazine. I didn’t know anything about automotive glass when I started working with that publication, either, but I dedicated myself to learning the ins and outs of the trade.
The most pivotal moment in my auto glass education came when I learned how to install a windshield, repair a rock chip and perform a windshield-mounted camera recalibration myself. I won’t pretend that I was anywhere close to being good, but getting hands-on experience gave me a much better understanding of the day-to-day labor in the industry I report on.
I want to do the same with window film and PPF. I’m counting on all of you to help me learn. I would love suggestions, so if you have any news tips or want to give me a fun fact about the industry, you can email me at abowman@glass.com or call me at 540/602-3272.
Oh, and since it wouldn’t be fair to expect any of you to help me when you don’t know me, let me formally introduce myself. Hi, my name is Abby Bowman. It’s very nice to meet you.
